President Dump fiscal year 2018 budget had a 16 percent cut for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and a 32 percent cut to the weather and climate agency’s research office. Many of the agency’s programs were targeted for termination.

The Likely scenario is that Trump promised to establish funding if NOAA backed the latest of his stupid lies.
I cannot imagine how ignorant and /or morally corrupt people must be to actually support and believe this jackass.

OMG Jonny! Your "likely" seems very much on target of what was done. I dunno. I always ADMIRED NOAA for decades. But if employees are putting their kids through college and NEED the bucks to keep coming what would YOU do? I honestly don't know what I'd do! When it's your kid's education that will be thwarted or medical care of whatever how easy is it to justify supporting the LIAR? Sigh. Thank you for your reply. Sadly it makes a lot of sense to me. I wish it didn't! I wish I could argue with you but I see no way I can do that logically. SIGH.  Happy Saturday! :)

I can't understand why anyone would "alter" their statement just to satisfy the ego of  a 4-year old brat.  They must be republicans.

I am disappointed in NOAA BIGLY. Used to be a fan but I no longer am. Money talks. Money shackles. Money makes "good" folks go bad. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

I'm sad for both of us and others who feel as we do. There used to be "safe" places where true ruled and science rocked and politics was unwelcome. Now it seems to have infected everything. I wonder what makes susceptible vulnerable to that disease while others aren't? I'll ask and see what happens. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

Whether they're Republicans or not, they do what their boss tells them to do.  After all, it is their livelihood at stake and in some amount of time, that boss will no longer be in office and they will still have a job.

The Washington Post ran a very interesting article on NOAA's backing of Trump:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2019/09/07/noaas-support-president-trump-over-its-own-scientists-provokes-mass-uproar-weather-community/?noredirect=on

    One of the best comments:

"Dan Sobien, president of the National Weather Service’s labor union, unleashed a scathing response on social media.

“I have never been so embarrassed by NOAA. What they did is just disgusting,” he tweeted.

“Let me assure you the hard working employees of the NWS had nothing to do with the utterly disgusting and disingenuous tweet sent out by NOAA management tonight,” he added in a separate tweet.

I understand why people in the government cannot always tell the truth about Trump.  the head of NOAA is probably looking or save his job and maybe get back the 13% that Trump took out of their budget, but I would have such agita for having to tell that lie that I might have to buy Pepto Bismol by the case.
