"USE A BROOM". At the age of 83 going on 84 using a broom instead of a leaf blower can be physically EXHAUSTING. How old are YOU?

Are you a broomer? Athletic energetic full of vim and vigor and stamina and LOVE to sweep manually rather than use any tool to make your work easier on you?

Do you walk if you can ride? Climb if you can escalate or elevate?

When was the last time you broomed something clean? How long did it take?

Broom that takes an hour and CONSTANT MANUAL ENERGY or a blower that takes no energy but holding it and takes 1/4 the time? You decide.

    The nice thing about a rake is it's not as heavy as a leaf blower ... and if I pause, I can rest on it and look like I'm contemplating.  LOL

    I know how old Shuhak is Walt. He told me. How old are you? Impertinent question but pertinent to my point. Thank you for your reply. A rake doesn't sweep up the dust and small particles. Jim likes everything gone dust and itsy bitsy particles too. A new broom sweeps clean. Our two are quite old.

    I prefer to claim I'm Level 51 ... rather than 51 years old.  LOL

    I don't have a sidewalk to worry about.
    And the rain keeps the dust off the driveway.  
    So I just have to worry about leaves falling to the yard ... which is why I mentioned a rake instead of broom.

    I use a broom at least twice a week.  I use a garage broom for the big areas, a corn broom for the "fine" areas, and a plastic broom for everything else.  Even when I clean the street, I use a broom (and a rake if necessary).

    One good thing about using a broom, it won't wake up the neighbors up when you use it early in the morning.

    Using a broom instead of a blower is healthier as it takes more "work" to sweep than blow.  But that work burns calories and strengthens muscles which can help one lose weight.  And for those who wear a Fitbit, sweeping adds "extra" steps (don't tell my sister, she thinks I walk those steps).  Using a blower keeps your arms still so less steps are counted - even if you actually take them.     If you have the physicial stamina to use your muscles instead of electric thingies by all means do so. The electronic thingies don't just help out the lazy. They also help out the infirm. I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

  • OMG!  I feel as though I may actually be in the minority on this one, Rosie.  I don't even own a leaf blower.  Usually I just keep mowing the lawn all throughout autumn and mulch the leaves up leaving them as nutrients for the ground.  I would definitely be one of those "broomers" you speak of.  I use a broom to sweep both my front and back porch as well as my storage shed which I can assure you does not get cleaned often enough.  I actually like my broom but I can totally understand where you're coming from.  LOL!  Check back with me as the years inevitably progress.  I may change my tune.

    Oh, and on that note...about age.  It made me think of a scene from one of my favorite holiday movies, "Miracle On 34th Street".  I was always amused by the answer "Kris Kringle/Santa Claus" gave to Maureen O'Hara on his Macy's employment records regarding his personal stats.  Anytime someone asks about age his reply comes to mind...

    "As old as my tongue, and a little bit older than my teeth."  LOL!

    I've seen that movie a bazillion times give or take and I never tire of it. I'm not a gadget gal but my Jim is absolutely a gadget guy. I'm gonna ask. If it's out and we can afford he buys it. Not kidding. As a result we have tons of stuff collected over the decades here and there and everywhere. I'm a natural state preferer but sometimes the "helpers" invented come in very handy.     You are using the wrong broom.  
    When a woman is a practicing, sanctified WITCH, she becomes a Crone when reaching old age.  This is NOT an insult.  That is what has been  adapted by the brain-dead Western civilization.  Old means ugly.  

    In WICCAN and even the Old Religion, OLD means WISE.  So, the BROOM signifies the levels of awareness we can reach by flying on one.  The idea is also to sweep away bad energy.  So, you need to use your Electrolux for the physical and use a sacred broom when wishing for enlightenment and sweeping away bad vibes.

    It is a great way to pray.  Visualization is POWERFUL.
     
    I will turn 69 in November.

    When I think of "witch" Billie Burke as GLINDA THE GOOD WITCH in Wizard of Oz comes to mind. The old crones with humongous warts don't live in my neighborhood. Thank you for your reply Sharon. My baby sister will be 75 in December. It's funny for years I was always the youngest. Now I'm often the oldest. The alternative sucks so I will take it! :)
