We don't know what we're going to experience or how it will change us. How can we promise anyone anything to last FOREVER?

Do you know whom you will be in a year or five or ten? Or even if you will still be here?

I think all promises should be contingent. "If I can" to qualify them.

People don't like to hear "if I can".  They want to hear "do" or shut up.

One needs to be very careful before making a promise.  Many people make promise that they know they can't keep or have no intention of keeping.  They make them just to make themselves look good (see "all politicians").  No one knows what the next minute will boring, let alone any time fame beyond that.  We need to keep that fact in mind when we go around making promises.

If one makes promise, they should strive to keep that promise - no matter the cost to themselves (time, money, inconvenience, personal disgrace, etc.)  {{It's called having integrity}}.  Unfortunately, many people use the clause "if I can" as a loophole to renege on a promise - especially if they find out that keeping said promise will have a negative effect on themselves.  It's best not to promise at all if one has no intention of fulfilling that promise.

I'm talking about unexpected exigencies that get in the way about which you knew nothing at the time you made the promise Shuhak. People can't handle the truth so they'd rather you LIE to them and say "I will love you forever"? Did you ever say that to anyone or hear that from anyone? Do you still love and are you still loved? I'm just saying we don't have a clue what tomorrow will bring much less the rest of our lives. Be temperate. Be realistic. Thank you for your thoughtful reply! :)
