*Purple Rose of Cairo" is a film by Woody Allen starring Mia Farrow and Jeff Daniels.
The plot is simple. A housewife whose husband is an a** escapes her unhappy life by going to the movies.
It's her escape into a life she wishes she had. She will see the same movie over and over and over until a new one is shown and then she will see it over and over and over etcetera and so forth.
On one occasion one of the actors in the movie (Jeff Daniels) walks off the screen into the audience and goes directly to her. Said he had his eye on her because she kept watching that movie so often. A variety of things ensue none of which are believable but all of which are delightful. The ending is a downer but within the frames of that movie lies a wondrous thought. WHAT IF Jimmy Stewart walked off the screen from the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? He would be voted in as president by acclimation despite the evildoings of the political parties and their corrupt members. It is my WHAT IF after all and so it can be whatever I say it is.
