How old were you when you got your very first job? What was it?

I was 14 and it was for the two weeks of Christmas vacation. Building boxes in the back back storeroom for the clothing store for which I worked. My parents' friends owned it so that's how I got that gig! My first paychecks..two of 'em! I still remember how proud I was earning that money. Of course I had also earned money babysitting but well who doesn't do that?

I was 18, just out of high school.  I went to work as a computer programmer for a large electronics firm.  My pay was $6.05/hr.
It was a temp job (6 months).  After it ended I went to college.

Awesome Shuhak! Seriously awesome! After that gig you went to college! Amazing! Sounds to me like a really nifty temp job! Better than slinging burgers. Thank you for your reply! :)

Wow m2c that is very heavy in a good way! Working with old people in a nursing home at a young age like that? Kudos to you. What caused you to seek that out? I'm thinking there might have been days when you felt very bad for some of the folks there. Anyway I don't think I could have done it. Congrats to you for being that caring.  You forgot to tell me how old you were! Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday to thee! :) This post was edited by RosieG at October 25, 2019 10:47 AM MDT

I did not work with the residents. I cleaned the floors, resident's rooms, bathrooms,  dining room etc.   It was a little different. It was the first time being about older people who were that sick. Some would just sit and moan all day. You could not help but feel bad for them.
And then there were others who you really did not understand why they were there.
My Grandmother worked there for years...and they needed someone for the summer. Many of the nurses told me that I should go for a CNA etc.  Because they seen I worked. But that type job is not for me.  I would get too attached to them and it would be hard to watch as they went down hill health wise.

It is were I met my husband (the following summer).  The nursing home was being remodeled and he was working for the construction company. I tease him...."You have had me cleaning up after you since before I even met you."

I am 45yr old.  This post was edited by my2cents at October 25, 2019 11:52 AM MDT

How old were you WHEN YOU WORKED THERE sweetie? However old you were that was a lot to shoulder. Seeing so much sadness. But you met your husband there so maybe it was meant to be! Thank you for the additional info. So HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU HAD THAT JOB? No I am not shouting. I am just making sure my voice can be heard across the miles! :) This post was edited by RosieG at October 25, 2019 12:21 PM MDT
