As heard on TV this a.m. "BUTTER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REFRIGERATED". Blanket statement. STUPID too. Wanna know what's true?

Salted butter may be kept unrefrigerated up to two weeks in a covered crock PROVIDING the temperature is not 70 degrees or above. Who keeps their household temperatures 70 and under ESPECIALLY IN THE KITCHEN WHERE THE OVEN AND STOVE BURNERS ARE? Also the dishwasher and refrigerator generate heat as well.

You BUY BUTTER in the refrigerated section of the market. Why do you think they refrigerate it at purchase point and not just put it on the shelves as they do cereal and canned goods? BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE REFRIGERATED!

UNSALTED BUTTER IS ALWAYS BEST REFRIGERATED. It is more delicate because it doesn't have the preservative effect of salt.

So that's the TYPICAL kinda CRAP they tell ya on TV 24/7. Even worse if the subject is politics instead of food. The person to whom that stupid statement was directed (without the qualification I provided here) DID NOT CHALLENGE IT!

Seriously lamebrained. The receiver of the bogus info just said ooh ahh I didn't know that! Sheesh! I wonder how much money these stupid dumbs get to "share" bogus information?  A lot I bet. Why does this bug me so? Because so much of what people take AT FACE VALUE is bullsh**. They are not even curious enough to investigate and verify. They just swallow it whole and pass it along to those who swallow it whole who pass it on and pass it on and pass it on. WHY?
