I believe everyone tries (unless they are totally unsympathetic to others). However, without those experiences there's no foundation to build on. That's not to say one shouldn't try, only that it will be very hard. No one has had the "exact" same experiences, as we all perceive our experiences from a unique point of view - our own. For example, many people have been married, but no one has had the exact same experiences during that marriage. Even so, it would be easier for someone who has been married to relate to another's marriage problems than it would for someone who had never been married.
It's much easier to relate to someone who has had the same (or similar) experiences as ourselves. In fact, that's how friendships are born.
“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” -CS Lewis
How true. I had not heard that but I have experienced it countless times in my life. Serendipity random happenstance or meant to be? I shall never know but I am grateful for those encounters. Thank you for your thoughtful reply Shuhak. How are the fires going in your area? Calming down I hope.
