Are you a HOVERER or a LEAVE ALONER? Do micromanage everyone because you don't trust them to do it right without your conductoring?

    Yes, I'm a micromanager.
I'm an OCD perfectionist.  That means when I tell someone to do something, I give explicit detailed instructions on how I want it done (I've gone as far as writing manuals).  I don't hover above others per-se (forcing them to stick to my guidelines), as I want them to think for themselves .. just not too far outside my box.

Oy vey! I cannot stand being hovered over Shuhak so if you were my boss we'd have to have an understanding or it just would not work! Thank you for your reply. Jim is a perfectionist too which I am not and he often drives me bonkers. But we've been together 22 years so we worked it out! Thank you for your reply! :)

I probably make myself sound worse than I actually am.  Actually when I was a manager, most of my staff liked me.  I admit, there were times when I was a bit demanding -  especially when upper management came to visit (dot the i's, cross the t's and hide the dust).  However, I tended to keep my staff... shall we say, "entertained" (like working for Jay Leno, or Stephen Colbert).  One woman even accused me of giving her laugh lines (to upper management, no less). My staff appreciated my manuals, as they were quite through -  even upper management was impressed by them (Grocery Work for Dummies??). This post was edited by Shuhak at December 7, 2019 2:58 AM MST

Well when you are responsible for meeting deadlines you gotta do what ya gotta do Shuhak. I remember one job I had where we all ADORED our boss and all worked well together and really liked one another. He was under the gun on something and asked us to come in on a Saturday. Everyone showed up!. We worked our butts off that day. He went out and bought us pizzas and some sodas. By early evening the job was done and we all felt so good about being able to deliver so he could deliver. TEAMWORK. I'm a loner but I can tell you there is nothing as satisfying as being part of a team with a goal that's impossible to meet and then meeting it! It's euphoric! I expect you would be that kind of boss. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

You would be doing it yourself if I worked for you and I would not let the door slam me on my way out.

When I was a manager I had very few complaints (if any).
