Yes it's available.  Safeway has it in their service deli department.
    No, I've never tasted it.

Thanks for the info Shuhak. We used to have Safeway stores in southern California years ago but I don't know if we still do. I know when my son and ex-daughter-in-law lived in Castro Valley they shopped at one. Perhaps that's the only place they survived? Northern California? :).

Safeway pulled out of SoCal during their bankruptcy in the 80's.  Although they own Vons, I don't know if they carry the same items there or not.

Safeway sold off a lot of its assets just before they sold the company (to make it artificially appear more profitable).  Although they still operate stores in 15 states, the NorCal division is by far their largest.  The NorCal division has always been their most profitable division so naturally they focused most of their attention here.  But with Albertsons now running the show, who knows how long they'll last.

It is still available here at Kroger. My stepfather use to eat it and we had to leave the room. It has a high butyric acid content, which smells like uber vomit. It is the same chemical that gives Parmesan cheese it familiar odor, but that has a much lower concentration.
