So do many "social media" web-sites. It's called "data-harvesting", and is Facebook's (and doubtless others') primary business.
They are not tracking your physical moves, and I doubt most of the 'phone "apps" are, but instead gain personal information, shopping ha bits etc., valuable to advertising-agencies and their own clients.
If your are not careful, Outlook sends your browsing details to a vast number of commercial clients , each with an individual "cookie" (stupid name) you can switch off. Luckily, because there seem to be hundreds of these companies listed by Outlook, you can switch the lot off - but only for that session.
Thank you for your thoughtful and informative reply Durdle. Back in the day I had a variety of keychain thingies they'd swipe at the market and I'd get "valued customer" discounts. I'd also get sales pitches via email or in the snail mail. I never minded any of that. If I buy certain things all the time and am offered coupons or a discount on them why would I mind that? It works on my behalf in my opinion. BUT that's where it ends. In the market. Elsewise and otherwise I hate it. When I gave birth to my son I got bales of mail pertaining to having a newborn. Now who the he** sold that data/info to whom? You know what I get now unsolicited? Sales pitches from crematoriums. I'm 82. I've been getting these since I turned 70! They wan me to consider being cremated. That I do not like. I also gets sales pitches for walkers, hearing aids and other "old people" things. I RESENT ALL OF IT! I am NOT going to fall apart or die on their schedule. That just frosts me no end. I wonder if other olders get crap like that too? Gonna ask! Thank you for your reply Durdle. :)
