When my Grammie was still alive, we had prime rib or roast beef for Christmas Dinner.
Since she isn't around any longer to entertain guests and the family with an elegant, sit down dinner, the meat choice has been up for negotiation.
One year we couldn't come to an agreement on the beast.  Instead of fighting or pouting or throwing any childish tantrums (which we all have been known to do from time to time,) we concluded that everyone could have what they wanted. We would collaborate on the side dishes.
The men had steaks.  Mom and I had fish, and my sister had squash soup.
Grammie probably rolled over in her grave with the squash soup idea but it worked.  Everyone was happy.
The kitchen was a huge mess but we all pitched in and cleaned it no time.
This year I think it is going to be, "The Christmas Crab."  Only I get to vote!!
Nooo.  I'm not sure what we are having this year.  Now that you mention it, I should call mom and find out what I can bring.
    :) :)

That was my answer to a question Southpaw asked a little while back.

You are never going to believe this.  I SWEAR I had Nothing to do with Planning our dinner feast for Christmas. I didn't bring up this question, or even hint about what to have this year.

Mom and Dad did it all on their own.

    We had CHRISTMAS CRAB.
Don just about died when dad asked him to come over and help crack the crab for dinner.
He looked at me with eyes as big as flying saucers and said,
"Did you do this???"  "Did you make your parents go out and buy crab for Christmas??"  "What have you done????"
I swear I had nothing to do with it.  They did it all on their own.
It was an amazing thing the Universe did for me.
We did have Christmas Crab this year for dinner.
    I kid you not.
We had a wonderful green salad, fresh cracked crab and garlic bread with fresh lemon and cocktail sauce (which no one used but was available just in case.) and a light Chardonnay wine.  I can't remember the name  of the vineyard. I can ask mom if you are interested. Sorry.
    There were no left overs.
    It was fabulous.
    Thank you Universe!
    :) :)

  • Christmas crab sounds perfect lol. I’m sick of turkey and potatoes and stuffing and pie. I usually love that stuff but I’m so done.

    :):) !
It was a surprise and a delight.  It normally is too expensive.  This year, by the stroke of the hour, it dropped to 6.99 a lbs.  Since we have a small family, it was cheaper than prime rib.  That was my dad's reasoning.  My mom's statement was, we can have the men crack it and we only have to make salad.
My thought was, "I am elated!!  We ALL love crab and I thank Southpaw.  Why?  Because I would never have dreamed of such a goofy and wonderful entree' to have for Christmas had it not been for the question.
I had a deal with Don that we would be off our computers at 8:45.  It is now 8:46, so I have to go.  I love you guys/gals.  See you tomorrow! :) :)

  • I’m starting to miss work and routine lol. I still don’t go back till the second so I feel like I’m in this weird state of limbo now where I don’t know what day of the week it is.
