    Information overload!

We used to get our news from the daily newspapers and/or teh 'local' TV station (news at 5 & 11).  We got the neighborhood/town gossip from a neighbor, the local grocery store or at a social function; down at the local barbershop/hair salon, or via a phone call from a friend.  Gossip and rumors about celebrities came from the blabs in the grocery store checkout line.   Routine information came from encyclopedias or the library.  If we didn't care about getting any of this information, it was all fairly easy to avoid (even the phone call from that gossipy "friend").

With the advent of cable TV networks, the internet and cellphones, things changed.  No longer did we have to wait for the morning.afternoon newspaper to hear the news, or even the 5 pm news (or "film at 11").  We had cable news networks broadcasting news not just from this country, but from the entire world... 24/7.  Social media sites allowed us to get the latest gossip instantly - along with every Tom, Dick and Harriet's opinion (whether relevant or not).  And having a cellphone ment we could be "connected" 24/7 (and a 'smartphone would connect us just by asking).  Libraries of information were now at our fingertips (computers or phones).  Anything one wanted to know or see (good or bad) was there in a blink of an eye (unless you still use dial-up).  One used to have to pose for a camera, then wait to get the film developed.  Now cameras are virtually everywhere.  Most everyone carries one with them (phone), they're on roads, street corners, establishments, parking lots, and even in house doorbells - all broadcasting live 24/7.  Once we were able to turn off unwanted information, now it all bombards us day and night - robocalls, ads, phones, internet, wi-fi, cameras, Siri, CNN,  ....  KABOOM!  Information overload!!

How does a person get away from all this?    Even the once quiet parks and forests now echo with 'voices' from smartphones, music, or "private" phone conversations.  Where can one find peace?

For each person it's different.  For me, I write; getting lost in the fantasy worlds of my mind; or I'll listen to music, or I'll just meditate quietly... no TV, no computer, no nothing.

YOU NAILED IT Shuhak. For me I escape to TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and get lost in a movie set in a long ago time that I recall living through. A favorite movie like YANKEE DOODLE DANDY or CASABLANCA or CITIZEN KANE or THE WIZARD OF OZ carries me far far away from today and it replenishes me and soothes me and calms me. SIGH. Oh those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end...... Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :) At least we can read about them and relive them through the magic of old movies or old TV shows. And our MEMORIES!

New sucks bigtime bigly. Will the day ever come again when "new" is good for you? Kind to you?. Fair to you?. Honest and true?
