It amazes me about how OFFICIOUS some are when they make their pronouncements about what is and is not a valid interest. Why do they do it?

We are all wired differently. We are not all one another's cuppa tea. There is no RIGHT or WRONG in that. You cannot operate beyond your capabilities or interests and we are not all equally capable or interested. SO WHAT? Just because someone gets off on riding roller coasters and scary movies (not remotely my cuppa) I don't look down on them for that. I wonder WHY they find pleasure in it and what they find that attracts them to being scared. I avoid it. Doesn't make me better or worse..just different.

SIGH.

I discuss things in which I have an interest.  If others don't share it, they are free to not participate in my conversations.  If I'm not interested in a topic someone else is, I just stay away from it.  No need to question the interests of others.  There certainly are enough issues and topics out there to find a group that is like-mined.  And, for the record, I don't like scary movies or roller coasters either. :)  Happy Sunday. :)

Me too L. Of course the more interests we share with others the more likely we are to hang out with them. That's normal natural makes sense. I'd never get a tattoo but some of the artwork is beautiful. I'd never get metal in my face and I always wonder if it hurt very much but I don't have pierced ears either. Different strokes. It may not be my cuppa but if it's yours and doesn't hurt anyone I have no problem with it. Why would I? Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

At one time I thought about getting a tattoo.  It was right after 9-11 and I wanted a small heart with the stars and stripes on my shoulder.  One of my nephews is a tattoo artist and he told me that the size I wanted would not allow for the stars to be clear.  I didn't want it any larger, so I wound up not doing anything.  I agree that some of the artistry in the tattoos is gorgeous.  I cannot understand anyone piercing their face.  In fact, I find it difficult to look at people who do that, but it's their face.  I do have pierced ears (one hole in each lobe) which I did when I was 14.

Many women do. I'm going to tell you a big reason WHY I never did it. In high school I sat behind a gal named Janet. Her earlobe was green where pus had formed after she had her ears pierced. I guess it requires keeping them very clean for awhile until they heal. I didn't want to be bothered fussing with anything like that and would you believe I can still see that infected ear  in my mind's eye after all these decades?. I asked her if she knew about the ear and she said yes it hurt and she was dealing with it. Thank you for your reply L! :)

I did have an infection in one lobe when i first had it done.  I suspect I must have been playing with the ear with hands that were less than sterile.  I got an antibiotic salve from the doctor and it went away.  I definitely am glad I did it back then, but I wouldn't have anymore holes made in my ears.

I don't look at people who ride roller coasters at all... well... at least not until they get off.

I enjoy sharing my interests with others.  It makes me feel like I'm not "alone" or a complete weirdo.  However, if they someone doesn't share my enthusiasm for a certain interest, I certainly don't want to force it on them (even if I can't understand how they couldn't enjoy it like I do).  Different strokes for different folks.

Precisely. Although there are some interests others have that creep me out very bigly. Sadism masochism whateverism. Weird and scary. I guess whatever you can think of there is an audience for it! Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)
