How would the species have to develop to abhor/hate war and treasure peace and all get along? A DRASTIC design change or just a tweak?

I speak of the species homo sapiens. Could the reconfiguration redesign of the one existing now with a few alterations be successful or would it have to be scrapped entirely and begun again all anew with a far superior material?
