I can't speak for Buddhists, but I do realize that outcomes / results can't always be controlled and I've no desire to control them.
But don't you wish that an outcome that would benefit you would be what happens? Can you be so detached that you wouldn't care if it harmed you or helped you? If so I'm not there 
FNR. I like outcomes that don't harm/hurt/impair rather than those that do. If I can have some control over it you bet I will exert it. If I can't then I just try to figure out a way to live with it. Both success and failure can positively benefit an individual, even bad outcomes help a person grow and ultimately hold a greater appreciation for success when it finally comes along.
As a business owner it took several failures before I finally succeeded. It's all in one's perception.
Besides, I can control my choices and by extension some outcomes. That's good enough for me.
