What is the difference between being brainwashed and being hypnotized? Ever been either? How did you snap out of it?

I had one hypnotherapy session as part of a stop-smoking program. It worked for me. I don't know how I snapped out of it because I don't recall hearing anything the man said after I went into hypnotic mode.

Belief.  Brainwashing changes your beliefs.  

Nope.

Wow! Some folks can't be hypnotized. I am one of them. I was told it is because I don't trust anyone enough to cede control over me to them so I resist all attempts by anyone to try. I forget the exact reason but I had an optometrist who was a personal friend and he was also into hypnosis. I don't remember what the problem was but at that time I used to have a weight problem and I think he had helped some folks with similar problems curb their appetite, eat less. I was more than willing to try it since I had tried every diet available to no avail. At my heaviest I think I was 158 lbs (5' 7" tall) but who remembers? He tried and it did not work. I did not relax. I tensed up. I did not become unaware of my environment. Nothing changed for me at all. Once upon a time long ago I took a puff of marijuana. I am not a smoker. Nothing happened. It was only one puff and I don't think I inhaled but I am so against drugs of any kind I think I didn't really give myself permission to experience it. Maybe that's what I did with the hypnotism. Anyway I weigh about 123 now and haven't had a weight problem since I was in my mid-30's. The problem corrected itself. I think he also helped smokers too but I never had that problem.
