This song, the second single from the "Young Americans" album, gave David Bowie his first number one hit in the USA, and at that time he was yet to reach the very top with a single in the UK (he achieved it soon after this with a reissue of his early hit "Space Oddity"). Meanwhile, the "Fame" single wasn't quite so hot in the UK, where it peaked at #17.
This was one of those songs that I didn't care for at first. It later grew on me.
