One of Glen Campbell's most popular and famous songs, this one topped the US charts in 1975 and also peaked at #4 in the UK (the highest placement ever achieved in the UK by a Glen Campbell single).
I always liked Glen Campbell. He always seemed like an humble guy with loads of talent.
I think you are probably right. He had a handful of hits on my side of the Atlantic as well as on his own side. Three of his solo singles peaked at #4 (his highest in the UK): "Honey Come Back", It's Only Make Believe" and "Rhinestone Cowboy". He did, however, go to #3 with a duet with Bobbie Gentry singing a cover of the old Everly Brothers hit "All I Have To Do Is Dream", but Bobbie Gentry's name was mentioned first on the label. His other Top 40 singles in the UK were "Wichita Lineman" #7, "Galveston" #14, "Everything A Man Could Ever Need" #32, "Dream Baby" #39 (a cover of a Roy Orbison hit) and "Southern Nights" #28. He also had six Top 40 albums in the UK, the biggest sellers being Greatest Hits compilations. His first "Greatest Hits" album stayed on the UK charts for over two years.
Here is a partial listing of the hits the Wrecking Crew. which Campbell was a part of played on:
