Here is an American record which did even better in the UK than it did in its home territory. It only got to number four in the USA (the highest this singer ever got in his homeland) but in the UK it went all the way to number one.
Actually, Roger's biggest musical success in the US was the Broadway musical Big River, which he wrote. It was a smash hit.
I was referring to chart positions with singles. The Broadway musical may have been a smash hit in itself but it doesn't appear to have produced any smash hit singles.
Be that as it may, it was still one of those Broadway shows where you had to know somebody just to get a ticket, kind of like Cats or the current humongous hit Hamilton.
