Marmalade were one of those bands who were successful with singles but got nowhere with albums. Their run of 11 Top 40 singles spanned the 1960s and 70s. This wonderfully catchy, jaunty little ditty reached the Top 10 in 1971.
Reflections of My Life was the only real hit they had in the US. It peaked at #10.
That got to number 3 in the UK. It was their second-biggest seller after their opportunistic cover of the Beatles' album track "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" which topped the UK charts for three weeks. Had the Beatles put their version on a 45 their version would surely have been the one at number one and Marmalade probably wouldn't have released their version as a single to compete with it.
Did "Cousin Norman" do anything chartwise in the US? If not, they missed out on a great record. It should have been a hit everywhere. :)
Nope.
I can never understand why a good song (such as this one) doesn't do well in the charts. People don't realise what they are missing out on. Lol:)
If everyone had the same musical tastes, the world would be a boring place.
Maybe, but some songs are just too "feel-good" to not like, and "Cousin Norman" is one of those songs that falls into that category. Lol:)
I found it somewhat forgettable myself.
