This song was originally a hit for Unit Four Plus Two in 1965. Ten years later, Randy Edelman covered it on his album "Farewell Fairbanks". Released as a single in early 1976, his version reached the Top 20.
I vaguely remember the Unit Four Plus Two version, but I've never heard this one.
I thought, with Randy Edelman being American, his version would have been played a lot on your side of the pond. Unit Four Plus Two were a British band and their version was probably a hit in the US due to the British Invasion in the US charts in the mid-60s. I remember Randy Edelman's version in the charts when I was about 13 or 14 (I think I had my 14th birthday during the time it was in the charts). I was only three when the original version was a hit and I don't remember it that long ago, although I did hear it on the radio when I was about 11 (lots of old hits were still being played on the radio several years after they charted).
