Why do so many celebrities (especially actresses) reveal only the year of their birth and not the actual date?

How come they don't mind telling the world how old they are, but they don't want us to know what their star signs are? I can understand them being a little secretive about their age, especially if they are 50 or older, but why don't they want a soul to know if they are Scorpio, Capricorn, Virgo or whatever? I just don't get it.
