Perhaps you can unpuzzle me..depuzzle me. Some always extrapolate something to a ridiculous extreme. Example?
You complain about your car and people ask if you would prefer to go back to horse and buggy days. Why is that? It seems odd to me that such a thing would ever occur to anyone ever but it does all the time.
They probably think they're trying to help (make the situation rosier?). I find it to be utterly annoying! What people want in that situation is sympathy, comfort, or just to vent ... not some jerk saying "it could be worse"! That just makes it worse.
It is annoying and obviously a putdown. Instead of dealing with the issue at hand they go for tertiary and make THAT the big deal. Minimizing what you said for what reason? Intentional or not it seems to be some folks MO don'tcha know? Making one feel like never again making any comment whatsoever to them because it will be use as a fuse so they can start a fire. Sheesh! Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Monday. If we could dissect the motive what do you think it would be? Gaining the upper hand? AARRGGHH! :)
