I think arriving late without a reason is being disrespectful to the host/hostess. Just my opinion.

Are you good about being on time? Being where you say you'll be at the time you said you'd be there?
Of course is something happens to delay you then you do call the host/hostess to notify them. Right?

I think being polite is based on respecting people. Do you too? I think it's impolite to be habitually late. Old fashioned I guess. Maybe being old is part of being old-fashioned. Know are young folks who are old-fashioned?

    I'm always early to appointments.

I agree that it's rude to be late.
This includes doctors and other professionals who schedule you for a certain time, but make you wait.
    Even a 4-hour "window" doesn't seem to work for telephone/cable appointments.  :(

I had a friend who was ALWAYS late.  Not to be fashionable, but because something always came up.
People who knew him would tell him the event started a half hour early ... so he would actually get there the same time as everyone else.  LOL

Being late when one doesn't have to be is just plain rude.  Using fancy names for it doesnt change that fact.  If one says they will be someplace at such-and-such a time then they should be there.  If one is unavoidably detained, then they should call and let the other party know.  That goes for attending parties, doctor appointments, dates, helping a friend move, giving someone a ride, going to work, or what have you.

I try to get places early or at least on time.  I am a man of my word.  If I say I will be someplace at such and such a time, then I WILL be there at or before that time - come hell or high water!  I try leave myself enough time between leaving and arriving to account for most difficulties (traffic, weather, road closures, etc.).

You are not "old fashioned", you're polite.  A trait that many of the younger generations don't seem to possess.

I try to always be on time or a little early.  The only times I'm not prompt is if something beyond my control happens - mass transit is not running, excessive road traffic or some such thing.  Yes, it is rude to keep others waiting and I don't like when it's done to me.
