Answer me this please if you can. The repubaccans "allegedly" are PRO LIFE and they'absolutely very PRO GUNS. How does that make sense?

Guns kill living things. That's what they are made to do.

The bleeding heart repubaccans are very anti women's health or using birth control because they cherish life in the womb and don't want anyone messing with it.

But once you're born you're on your own. They only value life IN UTERO. I have no idea why that is. Do you?

This all makes sense when you realize the core Republican base is full of people who have an authoritarian mindset with social dominance orientation.

Being "pro life" has nothing to do with minimizing the number of unwanted pregnancies and EVERYTHING to do with control and dominance over women and their sexuality.

Being "pro gun" is a misnomer. They are pro "the right people" having guns. When the Black Panther movement engaged in open carry and protests asserting their right to firearms ownership to prevent oppression by law enforcement, right-wing god-among-men Ronald Reagan passed one of the strictest gun control measures in modern history.

This is, of course, something of a simplification. But as a basic framework to explain what why sections of the American polity who claim to be "pro-freedom" also favor banning Muslims and retroactively oppose the end of chattel slavery, it works pretty well.

I've lost count how many times you've told me this SP. "IT'S COMPLICATED". My brain is limited in its stretchability. You know how a rubber ban snaps if you stretch it too far? Well I'm there and dare not try to stretch it any more. It's all gobblygook doubletalk circumlocution. None of it is logical or reasonable or sensible. The slogan logo emblem brand of the repubaccans. Sigh. Thank you for trying to help me understand. I will read and double read and triple read your reply and the links. Thanking you in advance of my success or failure I remain your mug pal...rosieG! :)

I find there is a curious dichotomy in how the world works.

At a granular level, things get VERY complicated (as I invariably remind others).

But sometimes (perhaps more often than we deserve), the framework (for lack of a better word) surrounding major questions about the world can be surprisingly simple.

My favorite example is health care. For all the sound and fury people have expended about how health care delivery should be structured, it boils down to 3 basic options:

    1) Fee for service (and if you're poor, sick, old, or unlucky...bleep you!)

    2) Socialization via insurance (in which case, Yes you Mr. Young Healthy Vegetarian Cross-Fit God and Genetic Lottery Winner have to pay into the insurance pool to pay for the medical care of Mr. Two Big Macs and Three Packs of Cigs A Day, because that's how insurance works)

    3) Socialization via public utility (i.e. we all pay into the "insurance pool" as taxpayers, and the government administers delivery of health care to all)

Yes, once we pick a particular option, the details get complicated quickly. But sometimes retreating to the basic framework questions helps to illuminate the situation.
