    Rosie,
    There is an absolute truth
    within each person.
    Deep within each person
    is that eternal absolute truth,
beyond all of the separation and division that we create,
beyond the Ego that we hold onto so desperately.
beyond the depression that we create.
...what i am saying is that once this inner Truth is realized
and embraced...there is no more depression ever. EVER!
...it's vital that each person achieve this realization.
Know the truth and it shall set you free as someone has said before.

The condition you describe (disinterest/apathy) without negative mood may be a symptom of dysthimia, depressions less aggressive but more persistent brother.

While it is true depression/dysthymia is a medical condition that cannot be wished away anymore than a broken leg or type 2 diabetes can be wished away, it can be "controlled" (in other words, there are treatments of various kinds).

And, yes, I've had depression/dysthimia much of my life. Right now, I'm OK, but that wasn't always the case.

You can get examined by a doctor and find out if you meet the criteria of having generalized depression.  It often runs in families.  Medication can make a huge difference.

You know Baba I have been "down in the dumps" from time to time in my life. But it never lasts very long. I usually bounce right back. But I have a dear friend who has suffered from clinical depression and as he has described it I know I have never suffered from it.  I feel very lucky and I wish it were something that never happened to anyone. From what you described that  you have survived and come through in your life I KNOW you are a very strong person. What happens to those who aren't?  Thank you for thoughtful and poetic (yes..once again) reply and Happy First Day of Autumn 2016 Thursday to you! :)

Fortunately depression doesn't show up in my family but I have a dear friend whose family members do suffer from it. Being temporarily down in the dumps is easy peasy. Not wanting to get out of bed for days is not so good. Thank you for your reply PeaPod! :)

You are welcome Rosie.  Big difference between being really sad about events in our lives and having something that can cripple one's ability to function without any real reason.

Precisely m'dear. As he described it to me it seems heartbreaking. It saps you of any desire to do anything. I cannot imagine being like that for days at a time. I'm not a pill taker PeaPod but thank goodness for meds that help to offset things like clinical depression. Thank goodness!  :)
