Some are phone, some are internet, some are automatically setup by different investors when/if stock X hit $N then sell/buy.
I do not know the % of each type. This post was edited by my2cents at March 9, 2020 7:44 AM MDT

The circuitbreaker got triggered m2c and the DJI is down 1884.8 and has been halted. This is scary. Have you ever seen that before? Thank you for your reply. By the way I'm glad you're here. Just thought I'd let you know. Never know what tomorrow will bring. :(

Yeah just seen that. First trigger at 7%, 2nd at 13%, 20% ends the day.

I do not remember anytime before hitting the triggers. (These triggers came in 2013)

Thank you. I like that you are here as well. This post was edited by my2cents at March 9, 2020 8:03 AM MDT

70% of stock market trading is done via "algorithmic" trading.  Basically that means when a stock or company hits a certain marker, it triggers a computer responds to buy/sell.  There are supposedly fail safes built in so we don't have another crash like in 1929.
