  • Another glaring faux pas on the part of the big ole money monster inside the beltway. At least DC is batting a thousand. Everything they touch turns to crap and they have the record to prove it.

Just heard this life we are now living may be for 18 month with occasional waves of more illnesses. That cannot possibly be true. True? Thank you for your reply HG. Everyone is flying blind 24/7 including those with the power to do something. SIGH. This post was edited by RosieG at March 19, 2020 3:00 AM MDT

Yes, but that's only to working people.  How about people like me who've been forced to live off their savings because they can't find a job?  Thanks to the economic disaster, that savings got a whole lot smaller.

I'm so sorry to hear that Shuhak though you do own your home right and you do grow some of your food and you aren't financially responsible for anyone but yourself and you do have your sister and other relatives nearby. Right? SIGH. Silver linings all of them. What I can't shake is the knowledge that not everyone who needs to be hospitalized and cared for will be. I've never lived in a world like that in my entire 82 years. I don't know what that will be like but it's coming...or already here. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

Unemployment benefits will be extended.  Amazon said they're going to be hiring 100,000 more people to keep up with the online demand for deliveries.  Maybe you could look into applying for a job with them.

Maybe they should hire even more ... since they are also limiting what they will ship from their warehouses.

I think the limits are so people don't hoard more than they don't have enough help.

    I don't think so.
They are limiting the types of things they ship, not the quantities.
Basically, they are limiting shipping on non-medical/health items ... sounding like due to not having enough workers.

I just heard on NPR that Kroger is looking to hire 100,000 ... and picking up a lot of applicants from service industries.
They also say WalMart is looking to hire 200,000.

You may be right.  I did see that there are things they are no longer shipping to allow them to ship items that are really necessary with a reduced work force.  A good decision, in my opinion.

We don't have a Kroger anywhere near me and WalMart is not permitted to do business in New York City (5 boroughs, not just Manhattan).  Not sure why.  It would be good if they are hiring because there will be millions of people without jobs and, while the new jobs may not pay as well as the old ones, some income is better than none.  I think Amazon said their pay will be $15-17 an hour.  Not great, but better than nothing.

There may be a City Market in Grand Central Station in Manhattan, but I live in an outer borough and I'm not traveling into Manhattan to shop.  We have local Key Food, Stop and Shop and Shop Rite locally and a Walmart Supermarket about half an hour away.  In fact, I'm headed out now to see who has what left.

My wife and I work it together and split the paychecks. We will be OK without it. I'm more worried about a retirement account I have. I'm afraid to see the next monthly statement.

Condolences E. That's brutal. Jim and Have both have annuities and somehow it isn't tied in to the stock market. We get a specified percent growth no matter what is going on in the market. Thank goodness because I'm not wired to ride roller coasters. I wonder once things stabilize and we live the new "normal" how long it will take the market to go back up? Anyway good luck, STAY SAFE. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 20, 2020 3:36 PM MDT

People earning over a certain amount should not be eligible for this money depending on ow many people in the family.  I do not need that money and if I were to be sent a check (unlikely), I would donate it to a food bank or some other charity to help those who do.

((hugs)) Did I tell you lately that I love you my friend? What a kind and generous thing to do. Would that all Americans were just like you at least in that regard. Thank you for sharing that L. I believe the movers and shakers will get the BULK of the bailout as they always do. The $1.5 TRILLION tax cut that 90% of them used to buy back stock isn't enough. It never is with the greedy money hungry hoors in the world. We've only just begun to experience what's ahead. SIGH. Oh boy! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 20, 2020 3:36 PM MDT

Good for you.  Giving it to anyone in need or to any organization that helps feed people is a good thing.

The news today said anyone who makes under $99,000 will get one. I could live like a king here for that much money.
