Each party totally believes  its candidate is the only truth-teller and the other candidate lies all the time. Of course that is absurdly untrue but no one gives a dam*.  Why?

Yes there should be fact checking but it should not be the debate moderators. They are to ask questions. And keep the debate moving along. Not interject themselves into the debate.

I don't agree. Uncorrected lies during a debate is only distorting the subjects discussed. i would wish for more critic moderators as journalists as such.

The most they should do is a follow up question.  But the one on one debate is supposed to be between the candidates not the candidates and the moderator.

During the Obama/Romney  debate on CNN the moderator inserted herself during an answer Romney was giving. It was very odd and afterwards there was a big uproar coincidentally she is no longer on the air.

You make a good point  but it would be nice if a particular candidate spoke the truth wouldn't it?

It would be nice if all candidates spoke the truth.  But politicans don't do that.

I know sweetie. I know. Both sides are equally mendacious. I know. More's the pity. Thank you for your reply m2c! :)
