How much time and money do you spend on crafting your outer appearance to fit a specific standard? How about your accessories, your material items, even your friends that support your look and style?

My appearance is determined by my income.

I do the best I can with what I have. 

Almost none at all.  Soap and water and a towel pretty much do it.  

A watch that works and has a countdown timer is the only 'thing' I would miss.  Aside from the internet, obviously, but that's hardly classified as 'style' so far as I'm aware.

Thankfully, my friends and family don't care what I look like, unless I look unwell.

I don't *think* I spend a ton of time on looking a certain way, but if I took into account every thing I did to get me closer to my goal appearance. I'm not a big spender in general, so most of my efforts go into the way I wear what I've got and more importantly how I carry myself.
Finding a balance between what I think represents me, what/who I strive to be, and having the acceptance of others is what is most important to me.

Now that I've thought about it a bit, I'm realizing that I actually put a fair amount of effort into my "image." I don't think that it's vain or shallow (though I can understand how it could easily become that). It serves a purpose. How you present yourself has a huge influence over how people see you, and how they treat you. On a basic level, you can use the way you dress in your favour, against people's judgemental minds if you have an idea of how their minds work.

I do spend some time. I like nice clothes and I like to match. I don't go too much beyond that. And I don't care much about accessories, especially friends--like friends aren't arm candy for me. I'm not that shallow. 

I don't give too much attention fashion. I try to dress modestly, and give more importance to the inner person.
