I work in education, 2 establishments in two different roles.. my feeling is that this is fine... I am very optimistic! I can't know what's happening elsewhere but I do know that teachers are continuing to teach and set work, mark it and interact with their students.. I have actually spoken to quite a few of the young students.. For some they were due to take exams and then leave school.. I anticipated that some of them would be pretty upset.. but actually they arent... Exam grades will be predicted here.. and while that will be a problem for some, they will get a chance to appeal and to take the exam later... So I can't really see how they have suffered as such.. Those students will get their results and be able to do everything they would have been able to do.. including go to college.... for some a bonus is that they have avoided having to take exams!

Having spoken to several many are enjoying being at home... and away from the pressures of school..  for others who have less than perfect families there are concerns... but educationally they will be able to catch up

Thank you for your very hopeful and comforting (to me) reply Addb. It always is best to go to the source and you are a fine source. Of course Jim and I are retired and our "kids" are middle-aged and our grandkids have already graduated. Even though we have no dog in that fight we worry. Less now...at least for your country. I'm not so sure about ours tell you the truth. Education is not valued here except by those brave stalwart warriors...our teachers and a handful of parents who adore teachers. Some of us care but many do nothing but blame teachers or attack them or insult them. Hope all is well with thee and thine Addb and Happy Friday to thee! :)

Ideally ... if parents are taking advantage of the home schooling opportunities available even before this crisis ... the kids could come out with a better education than they would have received in public school.

Realistically ... few parents are taking advantage of that opportunity.

I'm not sure how schools are planning to reconcile where kids are at, when they all come back.
Imagine 30 kids from the same history class.  Some worked to maintain their knowledge or increase it - others didn't.  Will the teachers have to "teach to the lowest common denominator", the kids who lost knowledge?  Probably, if schools operate as usual.

I think schools should take this opportunity to update their teaching methods, and allow students to learn at their own pace where possible.

Blanket statement follows Walt. In America teachers are generally attacked insulted and blamed. Few value them outside the field. I think teaching is the most noble profession and have no use for teacher blamers. Moving on. How many parents ever get involved in their children's education? They're too busy with their own wants needs. Kids grow up being entertained by TV cell phones video games and internet whatevers. So when parents have the opportunity to step in and Do how many will? I like your ideally. How far from ot is that in the United States? Other countries VALUE education most highly. Here if you are obscenely wealthy you cheat your child into a big time university or pay no attention. Not everyone of course. Some of us aren't that way but far too few. Who loses? The kids of course! Sigh. Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Friday! :)
