In order to complete the qualification I was taking, I had to reduce my hours at work again and again. I dropped to half my hours, then dropped 6 more, then dropped another 4. That was a real dampener on my income. It was necessary but very hard and I am still nowhere near to recovering but I am heading in the right direction

We should know better now, we didn't in the past - that doesn't make it right or excusable but we, as a species were as unsophisticated and enlightened as dead sardines.  If you think about it a LOT of hideously ignorant things happened back then. I know this won't be popular and I really don't want my first reply in eons to be in any way offensive, but you know me as someone who isn't afraid to say difficult things, but, we do have to bear in mind that although there was distinct exploitation, (not to mention inhuman practices) black people from Africa were involved in that - they took money, captured and sold their own people, profited from it.  There are NO good things about any part of slavery, and it's right that it is now wholly condemned   less

Mandy Smith was 14 when she embarked upon a sexual relationship with Rolling Stone Bill Wyman.
Shockingly - criminally - young, she concedes today.
No sane person would advocate that the age of 14 is old enough to be having sex with anyone, let alone a man 34 years your senior, but what age does she think is acceptable, I wonder? 15? 16? 21?
The vehemence of her response surprises me: 'It's not about being physically mature. It's emotional maturity that matters.
'I don't think most 16-year-olds are ready. I think the age of consent should be raised to 18 at a minimum, and some girls aren't even ready then.'

To be fair, since their determination that there was fraud despite the evidence being non-existent is illogical - who can say what they will do - they are clearly not in touch with reality and their behaviour is unreasoning.

But this time, it was more like a 2 as it was messy and not well put together, misshapen too. Yet, it was the same fudge cake.... Perhaps it's just me who has these strange thoughts?   less

The final element of the qualification was a final externally assessed assignment - marked by an examiner. I had my last assignment referred, (i.e. failed!) 2x and only passed on the 3rd attempt. Herein lies my dilemma - I KNOW that my first submission should have passed, I met the criteria! And the reasons they claimed it didn't meet the criteria were spurious and unsupportable and I also have evidence of inconsistent/unfair marking, e.g. a friend showed me her submission where she passed a question I didn't pass even though she had less explanation and 'concepts' and I passed one she didn't even though both our logs were identical in format.. I tackled this at the time by literally giving them what they wanted.. regardless of whether I thought they were wrong, 2nd submission failed on again a very debatable point, a matte...    less

Like when I was younger, (many, many years ago!) I had punk, new romance, pop, two-tone, these were all regularly in the charts and played on the radio, along with some 50's and 60's music. There were one or two American country artists known, but that was about it.  Now we have access to zillions of artists, groups, different genres .. and I wonder if we are, if anything, less tolerant of different kinds of music? What got me thinking was that someone in my house was playing a video game and it had music. My son commented on the terrible taste of music. I thought, hmm but someone must have thought it was great because they chose it...  I'd never heard of the music before..   less
