(Comma after the word “point”, and after the word “honest”.)

If you introduce a comma after "point," they the second comma would have to be a semi-colon because you have introduced punctuation in the first clause.

Not so, because it suggests that only one comma can ever be used per sentence, which is just plain whack, Jack.

To contend that a second instance of punctuation must be a semi-colon, would you care to cite references, please?  Thank you.

A semicolon is used to separate two ideas (two independent clauses) that are closely related. They can also be used when listing complex ideas or phrases that use commas within them. Essentially, a semicolon is like a comma with more meaning or a colon with more flexibility.Dec 13, 2018

I learned English grammar in 9th grade in conjunction with Latin classes.  In some cases commas and semicolons are required.  At other times---at the option of the writer, if not specifically prohibited---they are optional and may be used for the writer's purpose.

I have developed my own preferences for specific issues based on certain principles of grammar in general.  One of the rules of when to use a semicolon between independent clauses of a sentence joined by a conjunction is when one of those clauses contains other punctuation---and thus one cannot use a comma between the clauses.

I see grammar are more creative and individual :P  I am fond of the use of...... as you may have noticed. It covers a multiple of sins. It's reassuring to know things are the same here :)

This guy is way too easy pickin's for the likes of you.   You are the praying mantis and he is the mate.  She hated to do it but her nature said "screw it".  And although she did not hate, she ate and ate and ate.  The end.   This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at October 6, 2019 8:21 PM MDT
