Good morning, Rosie.  I heard that, too, but didn't hear if there was a reason supplied.  The only thing I can think of is that someone from the outside came to visit and was asymptomatic but brought the virus with them, or the person sheltered in place handled something where they live that had the virus on it (building door knobs, mailbox, laundry rooms, garbage compactor rooms, etc.) and they may not have properly washed their hands.

Hi my friend! I hoped you'd reply to this question. The Governor seemed surprised and I am too. Thank you for the possibilities you outlined. Any one of them or all of them could well be the case. I mean we shelter in place but have to go out on rare occasion. We are masked and gloved and try to social distance while we are out and about and so far so good but will/can that hold true futurely too? We sure hope so. I cannot imagine anyone "sheltering in place" for months on end without having to go out for something at some time.  Thank you for your helpful and informative reply L and Happy Thursday! :) ((hugs)) This post was edited by RosieG at May 7, 2020 2:16 PM MDT

To be honest, these days, you can get anything and everything delivered directly to your home, so you could conceivably shelter in place for a really long time.  I suppose that I wouldn't feel as though I was a hermit if I had a home with a back yard or a deck so I could go outside.  I miss having that living in an apartment, but today I did go outside and sat on the benches in front of my building for about an hour talking with a neighbor.  Naturally, masks were worn and I immediately washed my hands when I came in. :)

Sounds safe to me L! You also go out and walk from time to time too, don't you? What do you think of this latest big cheese investigation? He says the deaths reported aren't true. They are really much less and hospitals are reporting more to make him look bad? I wonder how much money it will take to investigation all "deaths"? I wonder what they buried on Hart's Island? What is being cremated? I'm sure it will get a lot better as we roll forward. I can hardly wait! Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday to you! :)

I would bet that the number is actually higher.  There may have been patients who died of the virus before it was made public and, if those patients had an underlying condition, the cause of death may have been attributed to that.  Happy Friday. :)

I agree. I wonder if we will ever find out the true extent of what we had to deal with? Not with da big cheese controlling things. Maybe one day he won't and then we will finally live a life based on TRUTH and SCIENCE and not what comes out of his gut or a**! Thank you for your reply L! :)

I think it would be very difficult to have a verified count of who died from the virus.  There are so many variables, especially in the beginning two or three months.

"Shelter in place" does not mean "quarantine".

With the first, you are still able to go to public places ... like grocery shopping ... where you are exposed to other people, who may be infected.

With the second, you are completely isolated and have no contact other than people who are wearing protective equipment.

I am aware of the difference Walt. When you go out you are MASKED GLOVED and SOCIAL DISTANCE. That is what has slowed down the rate of growth. SHELTERING IN PLACE. It may make sense to you but it doesn make sense to me how if you are ALWAYS MASKED GLOVED AND SOCIAL DISTANCE when you go out how you can contract the disease. It is transferred in droplets from a cough or sneeze allegedly. SIGH. Thank you for your reply. Did you really think I didn't know the difference? That would be a very stupid dumb person who conflated the two or confused the two. Don'tcha think? This post was edited by RosieG at May 8, 2020 7:53 AM MDT

    Masks don't prevent it.
The virus can be on droplets small enough that they get past the mask filter.

And wearing gloves?  Unless you take the gloves off properly (which most people don't), you actually increase your exposure because you have picked up the virus from all the surfaces you touched with gloves.

There's a few photos out there of the transit system of NYC, still crowded with people even during this "shelter in place".  Most of the people in the photos are not wearing masks or gloves.  It's a good bet that most of those people aren't living alone ... so they carry exposure back to family/roommates who are trying to "shelter in place".

If you social distance Walt you won't have that problem. I pull gloves off and handle them inside out and we use rewashable knit gloves. Both of us. Thanks for the info and how sad is it that people crowd together ungloved unmasked and braindead apparently to what is going on around them. Some will die because of their dumb. Others will die due to the dumb inflicted by others on them. Some will survive. CRAPSHOOT here we come! Gotta ask it.

And to top it off NYC subway ran less often forcing people to crowd together rather than be able to social distance.
