Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Memorial Day is an ODD holiday to "celebrate". Some are going to the beach to get tanned and plan to get drunk. Is that proper d'ya think?
This is America. We invent holidays just people can have an excuse to drink (did you know that today is 'Buy a Musical Instrument Day"? Cheers!). Heck, we even borrow other countries holidays just so we can have an excuse to drink (Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's day).
Buy your booze now so youre ready to celebrate next week's "other" holidays - "World Lindy Hop Day" on Tuesday, "Sunscreen Day" on Wednesday, "Hamburger Day" on Thursday, "Put a Pillow in your Fridge Day on Friday and "My Bucket's got a Hole Day" on Saturday.
But wait, we even have holidays for liquor (June 14 is Bourbon Day, November 12 is "Happy Hour Day",December 20 is "Sangria Day"), and holidays to excuse our drinking (July 2 is "I Forgot Day").
So raise your glasses and your beers America, for whatever day it happens to be you can be sure it's a holiday of some kind.
OMGG (oh my golly goodness) Shuhak. I thought you were teasing me..toying with me..putting me on. Not something you ever do but well there is a first time for everything. I fear if I were to verify what you wrote you'd be SPOT ON in every instance. I'm speechless so all I can do is thank you for investing time to once again bring to our attention THE TRUTH! Sigh. I wonder. Will we ever get weary of seeking it? I shall ask. :)

I remember hearing (many years ago before I cared) that some country had an official 6 day work week and 52 holidays a year.
As a retiree, I have an infinitely flexible work week---which is absolutely necessary given the number of holidays that I choose to observe personally.

Well m'dear at age 82 I celebrate every day when I wake to discover I'm still here. That's all the reason I will ever need to celebrate. At 84 Jim does the same thing. So we travel along singing a song side by side. I think celebrating life isn't done enough. People are too basy needing wanting conniving to get more to celebrate what they already have. That is a question I shall ask. Thank you for your reply!
