What does a "jury of your PEERS" mean exactly? If you're black the jury should be black and if you're white the jury should be white?

Is PEER based on color or something other?

Like what exactly?

Does it matter as long as the jury are unbiased and educated people without no axe to grind...Who of us all don't have funny quirks when it comes to rights and wrong...
How many deeply religious people could keep an open mind when sitting on a jury ....are they not influenced by their beliefs and would that not effect thier judgment in certain cases...
Why do Lawers want cases not held in certain areas......it's because communities are biased and educated by the state....Look at how Japan for centuries were forced to treat their Emperor as a god...and still do to this day...

What jury of homo saps is "unbiased and educated without an axe to grind"? Does such exist? Thank you for your reply D. Lawyers disqualify those who seem biased against the person they are paid to defend. I don't know how many they can discard. :)

To my knowledge Rosie....there can be no fair system of justice where money is part of the equation.....I would think most wealthy judges are biased also....
Not many cares for the Minow ...they are just food for far bigger fish to dispose of....

So what's the use of the charade then D? Why waste time and money when the outcome is a foregone conclusion mostly if not always? In the rare instance justice is done it's an anomaly not expected. Will the murderer be imprisoned for life? Will the other 3 actually serve HARD TIME for 15-25 years as Co-conspirators? Or will the dog and pony show result in all of them being acquitted by a jury that is LOATHE to put cops in prison for any reason? What do you think will happen? Thank you for your reply! :) This post was edited by RosieG at June 1, 2020 4:58 AM MDT

It's done to pander to the public in one sense and also to show them who's the boss...it really doesn't matter to them that its a fair trial...  Courts are there to show the public that justice is being administered.....individual cases are irrelevant ......
The pretence or charade is needed to feed the publics demand for justice....Do you think that America has a fair system when it comes to how long people will serve in prison.?
Does any country in the world have a fair penal system ?

How much money time and energy would be saved if we cut out all that crap? Dispense with it. What profession would lawyers gravitate toward? I'm going to ask. Judges would be unnecessary. So too would THE SUPREMES. Why have SCOTUS just sit there and get paid for doing nothing? Tempting. Thank you for your reply D. This post was edited by RosieG at June 1, 2020 7:24 AM MDT

A land where justice always prevails is just a dream Rosie and most likely always will be..Very few or more likely no one takes on those jobs with out funding their own pockets in a big way or just a trickle....Self preservation is built into our gene pool and in one way or another we all try to line our own pockets first before giving things to others...
Thats not always the case ,but how many people do you know that go out of their way to put their life on the line for others...

Hard to tell D. I'd say all parents would put their lives on the line for their children. Maybe friends would put their lives on the line for one another. I doubt that acquaintances or strangers would but I could be wrong. I guess it matters for whom your life is on the line doesn't it? Thank you for your thoughtful reply! :)

I am not talking about those who CHOOSE professions (for which they get paid) that serve others and endanger themselves D. I am talking about the average ordinary everyday typical person. There is a difference. The CHOOSERS ARE TRAINED TO DO THAT. The average ordinary everyday person  is not. Very different in my opinion. Thank you for your reply.

If you have ever served jury duty, you should know how it works.
