Has anyone ever tasted LIMBURGER Cheese? If so what does it taste like and how awful is the "odor"? Is it still sold?

Did it ever exist or was it only a myth? I've never seen it sold anywhere.

I have never tasted it, but my stepfather used to eat it and we couldn't go near it. It has a high concentration of butyric acid, which forms naturally in other cheeses, but to a much lesser extent. It is a stench agent which could gag a maggot. It can still be purchased here at a local grocery chain. I wouldn't feed it to terrorist prisoners.

Thank you for your "first-hand" report E. I appreciate it. I do not recall ever seeing it sold anywhere so I just wondered if it were a myth or doth it exist? Did your stepdad have a defective sense of smell? Butyric acid? Oh I love that "could gag a maggot" by the way. Maybe you have to ask for it. Maybe it can't be kept among normal cheeses and so it is kept away in the "back room". But I wonder who was the first to be brave enough to taste it? I sure am not! :)

I like sheepish cheeses, but even Stilton makes me heave. I haven't come across Limburger.

Odd. I like bleu cheese, bu Stilton also made me gag. It must be the sheep's milk.

Feta is great. A Greek salad without it is unthinkable. I meant "sharpish", but DYAC. Again.

Do you know how to milk sheep? Release a new iPhone.

It's rarely a good thing, but I'm not tech savvy enough to turn it off on the tablet.
