What was the most recent silly excuse someone gave you, and what was he or she trying to cover?

Well, when I tell someone I am engaged the first thing they do I look at my
"empty" engagement finger. The excuse is Number 1 on all three categories.

Maybe she is trying to cover heavyness and a missing tooth. 

When my wife's friends told me about the affairs she was having, her excuse was that she just made them up to see if she could trust her friends to keep her secrets. That they weren't true. 

When I asked her why she would want make up stories like that when it just makes her look bad, she was silent. Had no answer. Needless to say, the stories are true and all she did was tell on herself.
