A good friend of mine once won a Dirac silver medal (struck in his honour after he gave a series of lectures at the University of New South Wales) - it's the only thing he's vain about.

OMG! I think I've heard the name but I'm embarrassed to tell you I have no clue about what his contributions are. I can fix that by GOOGLING him. For me it was Richard Feynman when he was alive. He had a wild personality and played the drums. He was also brilliant. I liked Carl Sagan because he told me I was made of star stuff. My son wanted to be a physicist due to Sagan. We bought the book COSMOS and watched the series. My son was 12 and he decided he wanted to go to Cornell just like Sagan and become a physicist. It didn't happen but it was fun while it lasted. Of course Dr. Hawking is hard to leave out of any discussion but personally now I favor Michio Kaku. I just like his personality. Thank you for your reply R! Off I go to GOOGLE DIRAC! :)
