I don't see any reason to do so. It will not increase the voter turnout. It would actually make things more difficult, as banks and government offices would close.
I heard on NPR a while ago, that it is a national holiday in some country. I think it was in Asia. And people are required to vote - and many of them have picnics and such.
It's kinda hard for folks who work and have to commute long distances. I think anything that can be facilitated to enable folks to vote without having to pay a stiff price for it like missing a day's work (it would obviously be a PAID HOLIDAY in a RosieG administration.) would be a good thing.
