Pandora was allegedly the first woman created in mythology. She was given a jar (later a box) that contained all the world's ills. Why?

I am not sure why. Or that she was the one who opened the box and released all the ills into the world.

But of course why not blame a woman for something like that? What could it hurt? Everyone says so.
