How long has it taken you to be mostly to totally self-sufficient?

I have never been, and never will be, totally self-sufficient.
I prefer the luxuries of civilization.

Very few people are totally self-sufficient.
That would require growing your own food, and providing your own shelter.
What would "trip up" most people who want to be self-sufficient, is having to pay taxes ... the IRS requires actual money for that, which requires being reliant on other people for income.

Please define what you mean by “mostly to totally self-sufficient”.  I agree with what Walt stated above, I don’t think that’s truly attainable; we all have to rely on others for at least some things in life.

"Mostly" meaning a little help from friends and/or family and "totally" meaning that you only have yourself to count on.

I was self sufficient at age 18.  I had a very good job right out of high school.

I thought those "people who need people" were what one should strive for.....

  • I was a late bloomer for sure. I'd say it took me about 26 years before there was finally some semblance of me having my act together.
