Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» A pol said that "the military is a disaster". In what way(s) is it a disaster or is he lying again just because he can?
I'm assuming said pol is The Donald and, as the old expression goes, even a blind dog finds a bone once in a while.
Of course, what Trump means by "the military is a disaster" has almost nothing to do with reality.
Under Trump's construct, "the military is a disaster" because unnamed (cough...TEH STOOPID EBIL LIBRUHLZ...cough) evil/incompetent people have crippled the United States military with some combination of inadequate funding andoverly restrictive rules of engagement.
In reality, the United States spends nearly as much on its military as THE REST OF THe WORLD COMBINED and, while there are perhaps discussions to be had about exactly how the US military is allowed to conduct itself in various conflicts, the fact is the US military has been sent into many many conflicts in the 20th and 21st centuries, and did a lot of killing people and breaking stuff.
According to a scoring system utilitzed by the US Special Operations Command in analyzing how the US military did in those conflicts, the record is pretty dismal:
9 wins, 8 losses, and 42 ties (note: I think ties should be considered losses since miltary action which does not resolve a geopolitical dispute is simply murder and mayhem).
As military historian Andrew Bacevich sums it up, “We have not shown an ability to achieve our stated political aims in a conclusive way at an acceptable cost,”
The Donald's proposed solution would be to throw more money at the existing US military (and Military-Industrial Complex) structure, while throwing that structure at more geopolitical questions around the world.
What was that functional definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
