Can you make a good living if you get a masters degree in basket weaving?

Would you make considerably more if you went on and pursued a PHD? Whoa!!!

Probably not, but that has little to do with education.

Perhaps the number one problem facing the economies of the world is the worldwide shortage of labor demand, relative to supply.

Just ask all the PhD holders scraping by holding adjunct (i.e. temporary contract worker) positions in their fields, or the middle-aged software engineers replaced by younger (often imported) workers who are willing to work much longer hours from much lower pay just how much education means to their economic prospects.

As I constantly remind people on this forum (and elswhere), there are three basic solutions:

    1) Let lots of people die until labor supply is brought down to the level of labor demand

    2) Introduce lots of artificial inefficiency into the economy (mostly through regulation and taxation)

    3) Teh Ebil Socialism, wherein those who are lucky enough to be in demand cross-subsidize those whose labor is unnecessary, but who still need some way to obtain food/clothing/shelter/medical care/etc.

Most excellent, very informative, I think if the white man / woman wants to work in the US. especially in the south western US. and also if he or she wants a Gov. job, they'd better speak fluent Spanish.

PS. My question I'm sure you know was just to add a little levity to the mug.

    Awesome day to ya OS.

You can turn most anything into "A living". Wit the 'green wave' baskets and basket weaving is 'in' for many people. Just find a way to make them pay for that.

Write a book about basket weaving, and make sure to get some fun stories in there, Big glossy photos are good too (and save you a lot of writing). With a Phd. added to the byline You would have a much better chance of getting the book printed, and then rewieved; it dont even have to be a Phd in basket weaving, just the "by Bahama Surfdog Phd." will do ;-)
