No joke. He won "for having created new poetic expression within the grand American song tradition". His won the Nobel Prize in literature. This post was edited by Marguerite, the Beloved at October 14, 2016 8:38 PM MDT

Bob Dylan was THE icon of the 60's counterculture and has remained influential for more than fifty years. But as is usually the case, the person honors the award more than the award honors the person.

  • The other day I thought I heard someone playing some Dylan CD.  But no, it was just a groaning cow.

  • I guess he can be construed as a poet and poetry is a form of literature, so it makes sense on some level, but it's a bit disappointing.

I guess you had to live in the 60s and 70s to appreciate it. I think it is appropriate and deserved.

Why would it be a joke?  The prize is for literature.
