The main thing that the dumb cluck duck needs is an audience. He is lusting after attention and is INSATIABLE! Dirty old man?

He craves attention.  Always has.  Look back at his TV show the apprentice.  He was the same attention seeker then as he is now - only this time the show's called mr. president.

When he has no audience, or if his audience doesn't/won't give him the kind of attention he wants, he gets very angry.   If his audience makes him look foolish (such as telling him he's wrong), he walks out on them and slanders them.  
However, the more his audience cheers him, the more pleased with himself he becomes.  (Notice the smug, self-satisfied look he gets at his rallies.) The more pleased he is with himself the more he babbles; speaking whatever words pops into his head. He doesn't care what he says, he just fishes for some word or phrase that will elicit more parise.  Stumbling across a word or phrase that gets him more accolade is a veritable gold mine to his ego.
