Those of you who have ever initiated or been in divorce proceedings, how did it go when you informed your extended family members about it?

I told no family member, other than my sister, until it was over and done.  That makes it so much easier for them.....no need for them to try to intervene.

They were not surprised. My daughter even said: "It's about time, dad.".

I definitely recall hearing some "divorce is a sin" BS out of a couple of people, but mostly people were relieved for me.

Jokingly, I think some imminent marriages should be considered sins before they even start and should never take place, thereby avoiding all that jazz at the back end! Lol.

It was pretty friendly, all around.
We had married too young, being sorta rushed under pressure from the religious organization we worked at (if you dated more than a couple months, they thought you should get married), and we didn't have kids to worry about.

We realized we grew into different interests, and wanted different lifestyles - so divorce was the best option.

The question is about the way the news was received by your family members.
