    Because it was inconvenient to them to uphold that vow.  They're so afraid of losing their party, that they'll do anything - even making a deal with the devil - to keep it.  

    It's rare to find anyone who will uphold a vow/promise if that oath/vow makes them lose face, lose money/wealth, or otherwise becomes inconvenient to keep.  Most politicians have no intention of keeping the vows/promises they make.  They only make them to get what they want (votes, contributions, pacify certain groups, etc.).

    So it's all "lip service" then? No intention of ever fulfilling any vow or oath or promise? Then why bother taking an oath? I have to ask. Thank you for your reply Shuhak.

    They take it because it's required.  I doubt very much that any of then even know what the words they are repeating actually mean. 

    Much like couples when taking their wedding vows - just some "thing" they're required to do.  Few truly understand what they're actually saying, and some don't even care (no plan on keeping them in the first place). This post was edited by Shuhak at November 22, 2020 11:05 AM MST
