Dry martini. Welsh Rarebit. Mock turtle soup. Baked Alaska. Imitation Margarine. Garden Burgers (vegetarian “meat” replacement food).

What are some other food names, names of dishes, names of beverages, etc, that are either oxymoronic, hypocritically stated, nonsense or in any way opposite of what they actually represent, such to the point that when you really think about them, it makes you say, “Hey, wait a second . . . ”?

What's artificial margarine? I thought margarine was essentially artificial butter?

You’re absolutely right about the “artificial margarine”, which is why I included it here. Wait, I need to change that, because I just remembered that it was actually labeled “imitation margarine”. Oops.

I remember that also, from my stepfather. He was born and raised on the East Coast of the US, and retained a lot of the culture of his birthplace.

I was talking to a manager at a meat market and he told me a Rabbi came in to buy a Passover ham.

I saw a recliner for sale with the claim that it was covered in genuine imitation leather.  *shaking my head*
