Why can I not zoom into an Answermug page by sliding my fingers over my phone's touch-screen?

It's part of the responsive design. The site fills whatever screen space is available, so zoom conflicts with that. If you want to zoom, use the lock-screen button in the black bar at the top. It locks all the elements in place/ freezes the responsiveness, so zoom works.
